What should I do to be saved?

To believe is a choice!

The good news about Jesus Christ is that He died and rose again so that you could have eternal life with God the Father. After hearing this, it is time for you to choose whether to believe in Jesus or not. The first thing to remember, is that the only way to God is through Jesus Christ. In fact, no one can come to the Father except through Him.

The Bible says in Romans: If you confess with your mouth “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved” (Romans 10:9-10).

When you have made the decision to believe, it is important that you say it out loud, for yourself and to others. When you make this decision, you open up for the Holy Spirit to come and live inside you, and your spirit is reborn. In other words, the Spirit of God makes his home within you. So with this one simple decision, you are saved and transferred into the Kingdom of God!

Jesus says in the Bible that those who believe in Him, follow Him. Therefore, when you have chosen to believe you need to repent. This means to turn away from your old, sinful life, and God will forgive you. You are given a new identity as a child of God and a citizen of God’s kingdom.

To confirm your new faith, you should be baptised to Jesus Christ in the name of God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

If you confess with your mouth “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:9

As a newborn in the Kingdom of God, you are spiritually like a baby, a child that needs nourishment to grow in your new life of faith. No one understands everything right away. However, the Spirit of God has come to live within you, and you will experience His peace and guidance.

Living as a believer means to follow the example of Jesus every day by seeking God in prayer and through reading the Word. With this in mind, you should obey Him as your new Lord. Consequently, your faith and journey with God will lead you to a deeper and deeper relationship with Him. As a result, your understanding of who God is, and who you are in Him, will grow.

So what about you? Do you choose to believe?

Will you make the decision to follow Jesus?

If you decide to follow Jesus, you can simply talk to God in His name. You can pray with your own words, or if you are unsure about what to say, here is an example:

“Father God in heaven.
I believe that Jesus is Your son, and I let Him be Lord of my life.
I believe that Jesus Christ died and rose again for me, and now I choose to receive salvation.
Today I turn away from my old sinful life, and I ask You to forgive me.
Give me your wisdom and protect me.
I ask this in the name of Jesus!
Thank You, God, that I now belong to You!
Amen”

We hope that you choose to stay close to God, to His Word and other believers. Then He will keep you safe and lead you securely forward.
